Empowering Indian Women

Needless to argue that our government has come up with big step towards women'protection.Recent approval of the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Bill 2005 speaks it out. Thanks to NGO's activists that made their cronically attempts to get the approval. The Bill has been the major issue seeking approval since 2001.13th Lok Sabha succeeded to approve the Bill."Ab Bhartiya Nari Ghar main Surakshit hain...".

In India,Women issues are always seen as the way to get the attention of the crowd,it may be a movie or it may be empowering the women rights.Sensitive issue to be taken always with care.

Four years of continuous debate, activists efforts at last succeeded to empower the women rights.Though the putative Bill has been amended since 2004 now definition of domestic violence has been extended to include all kinds of abuse and also its threat — physical, sexual, verbal, emotional and economic. What is more, it covers single women in a live-in relationship and women living in joint families —sisters, mothers, widows — often at the receiving end of physical and emotional abuse. The most empowering clause, however, relates to women's
right to residence in shared households. The Bill seeks to protect the rights of women to secure a house or live in her matrimonial home or shared accommodation, whether or not she holds any title or rights. This right will be secured by a order passed by a magistrate. It also provides for
appointment of protection officers and registration of NGOs as service providers for legal and medical assistance to the abused.

Hardly we can commit practically that there would be time when man and woman are equal in India.Women rights in male dominated society are some of the initiatives to make them confident to fight against the violence and threat. The extent of domestic violence prevalent in our society is far greater than we would like to admit. Source -TOI :Statistics reveal that 45 per cent of Indian women are slapped, kicked or beaten by their husbands and 75 per cent of battered women contemplate suicide.

Indian woman is now no more pusillanimous against threats. She is more safenow under the Bill.Hoping for next women Bill in near future. It is well said that the nation is judged by the women power. So lets empower women to empowerIndia.
